The VR30DDTT equipped in the Q50 and Q60 is quite the performer, but the stock heat exchanger is the weak link in the chain that pulls you along. For starters, it?s a relatively small core to be dissipating the heat from two individual intercoolers. On top of that, the plastic end tanks that couple the lines to the core bring durability into question over the lifespan of the vehicle. In our quest to improve the air to water intercooling system on your Infiniti, we started by vastly increasing the core size on our Performance Heat Exchanger Design. Our new core design features a 196% increase in core volume and 97% increase of external fin surface area over the stock unit. In addition, our heat exchanger also features an all-aluminum, TIG-welded construction for improved durability, as well as a removable outlet port and captive bleeder valve to help with installation. These improvements over the stock design result in an up to 21 F drop in outlet temperatures and cooler intake air temperatures. The Civic Type R has a long history of showing off the maximum potential that Honda can achieve on its Civic platform. However, we here in the States never had the opportunity to experience Honda's hottest hatchbacks until the FK8 made its way across the Pacific Ocean.Even though the CTR is the cream of the crop when it comes to Honda's compact chassis, It's still a mass-produced car, meaning there is still room to improve, especially when it comes to the intake system. Luckily, the OEM engineers laid the ground work for us attaching an aluminum runner from the turbo to the induction boot. This meant we only had to focus on what was attached to the end of the runner. For starters, we ditched the turbulence generating, accordion-styled intake hose and replaced it with 5 layers of silicone embedded with heat-resistant fibers. Our new and improved hose is also reinforced with steel wire ensuring that it keeps its shape even under the impressive boost the K20C1 puts out. On top of strengthening the intake boot, We've also made sure to increase the diameter and smooth out the interior which greatly assists the overall 42-percent increase in flow throughout the full system.The other contributing factors to our air flow increase are our precision adjusted MAF housing and improved airbox. We started by first separating the two, and then redesigning the MAF housing to ensure an increased flow but also retain safe fuel trim perimeters and run check engine light free on the stock tune. Our airbox grew in size to accommodate our freer flowing filter, and retains the factory rubber snorkel securing the dedicated intake channel incorporated in the CTR?s hood.
